Barn Swallow

Geographic Location- from central Quebec and south Manitoba to North Carolina, northern Alabama, Tennessee, and Arkansas

 

Habitat- farmsteads, open grasslands, and inland lakes

 

Song- a soft wit or kvit-kvit, wit wit

 

Location Observed- In the barn

 

Date Observed- 6/28/00

 

Personal Notes- These birds like to make their nests in the beams of the barn. They have sleek wings for fast flying. Sometimes when I’m out mowing the lawn they like to swoop down in front of me and pluck mosquitoes from the air.
