Common Grackle
(Quiscalus
quiscula)
Geographic Location- Gulf of St. Lawrence and Manitoba south to the coast of Florida and Louisiana
Habitat- Residential areas, open cropland, and wooded swamps
Song- a split rasping note that is both husky and
squeaky, chuck
Location Observed- my front yard
Date Observed- 4/11/01
Personal Notes- Although the picture might not show the grackle very clearly, I know for sure that it is one. Grackles are very common where I live. I see them taking over the bird feeder every once in awhile. The cool thing about grackles is that they look black but they are really a blend of purple and blue. When they sit in the sun just right, their true color can be seen.
