Golden Eagle

(Aquila chrysaetos)

Geographic Location- Mountainous regions of Canada, Appalachians to southern states, also east of the Great Plains

Habitat- Deciduous forests

Song- kaka-kaka

Location Observed- Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin

Date Observed- 6/23/00

Personal Notes- On a trip out to South Dakota last summer we spotted several Golden Eagles flying above the Mississippi River in the Prairie du Chien area. Although this eagle was on display for tourists we did see a nest with an adult Golden Eagle watching protectively over its young over by the river.
