Mourning Dove

(Zenadia macroura)

Geographical Location- Breeds from Nova Scotia, south Maine, Ontario, and Manitoba south to the Gulf Coast

Habitat- Farmsteads, residential areas, and conifer plantations

Song- a hollow mourning ooah, cooo, cooo, coo

Location Observed- my Grandparents’ backyard

Date Observed- 3/22/01

Personal Notes- I see mourning doves all over the place where I live. They like to take over the bird feeder and pretend they are the bosses. I see them in the morning sitting on the power line cooing away. When I took this picture I was only about four feet away from them. But of course, I wasn’t standing outside I took it through a window.
