Red-tailed Hawk
(Buteo
jamaicensis)
Geographic Location- Newfoundland, Ontario, and Saskatchewan south to the Gulf of Mexico and Florida
Habitat- open grassland, cropland and deciduous forests
Song- rasping squeal, keeer—r-r
Location Observed- on the farm that I live on
Date Observed- almost everyday
Personal Notes- We have a driveway that is about a half mile long. Located along the side of our driveway is an old telephone that we left standing because it’s the desired sitting spot of two red-tailed hawks. Their names are Wilbur and Wilena. They have a nest together in the nearby woods. They have gotten so used to us that we can drive right underneath them and they don’t fly away.
