Red-winged Blackbird
(Agelaius
phoeniceus)
Geographic Location- Nova Scotia, Quebec, and Ontario south to Florida and Texas
Habitat- Shallow marshes, wooded swamps, and open cropland
Song- a gurgling konk-la-reee or o-ka-lee
Location Observed- my front yard
Date Observed- 4/12/01
Personal Notes- This bird took a long time to get a decent picture of. They were always at the bird feeder but of course I only saw them when I didn’t have my camera. These birds are all black except for a wide stripe of orange and a thin stripe of white on its wings. The orange makes this bird easy to pick out from a distance.
